Principal investigator

David W. Bates, MD

Dr. Bates has held many esteemed positions at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is renowned for his contributions to patient safety research. Among his many leadership roles, he served as the Chief of the Division of General Medicine at Brigham and Women’s.

Jeffrey L. Schnipper, MD

Dr. Schnipper’s research focuses on improving the quality of health care delivery for general medicine patients. He is well-known for his work studying diagnostic errors and transitions in care, including developing the Ideal Transition in Care framework. Dr. Schnipper is also a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Research Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine.

Ronen Rozenblum, PhD

Dr. Rozenblum has held many leadership roles at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, including as the founding Director of the Unit for Innovative Healthcare Practice and Technology. His research focuses on patient-centered care and health information technology.

Jacqueline Griffin, PhD

Dr. Griffin provided expertise in systems engineering to the PSLL with a focus on real-time decision making and developing methodologies and algorithms related to optimization. She is an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Director of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at Northeastern University.

Kevin Carr

Research fellow

Daniel Motta Calderon, MD, MPH

Dr. Calderon joined the PSLL as a research fellow while earning his MPH in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard. During his time at the PSLL, he developed an educational curriculum for healthcare providers to address diagnostic uncertainty. Through a research grant from the Society of Hospital Medicine, he implemented a diagnostic time-out tool among house staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he currently serves as Chief Resident.
