The Patient Safety Learning Laboratory (PSLL) is a research group formed in 2014 as part of a nationwide effort by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to improve quality and safety outcomes in healthcare.
The research group, based out of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, seeks to reduce preventable harm in the inpatient hospital setting by designing reliable systems for high quality and safety.
The multi-disciplinary team of researchers combines clinical expertise with systems engineering and human factors methods to improve patient safety. Continuous learning and curiosity are central to everything the PSLL does.
In practice, we utilize a five-phase systems engineering and human factors approach: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate.
